Communicating Government Requirements to Small Businesses

 

Washington D.C. Metro Area, October 31, 2012- Wymond’s CEO, Mr. Mark Adams, attended a meeting on October 31, 2012 hosted by the Honorable Katrina McFarland, the Assistant Secretary of Defense (ASD) for Acquisition and the President of the Defense Acquisition University. Secretary McFarland gladly hosted the American Legion Task Force meeting to provide a clear view and understanding of where the Department was headed regarding veteran owned small business and how the Legion can support the DOD in attaining those goals.

Secretary McFarland shared concern about her perceived dis-connect between the government requirements for services and products and the small business community’s ability to understand those requirements, follow the procurement process as set by regulation and effectively deliver the services and products required.

In response, the Legion Task Force suggested that a follow-up meeting with the appropriate organizations responsible for outreach, training and awareness in the DOD for small business and veteran owned small business be initiated immediately to help close this gap and provide a more effective awareness program for both the Department and the small business community. This offered a rare opportunity to discuss these issues directly with the Senior Policy maker in the Department of Defense and to engage in an on-going basis with the appropriate Department offices to improve the opportunities for veteran owned small business in the DOD.
